I feel that the Disengagement Theory is what I would not trust my instinct on and call as outdated because it creates a negative image with the natural act of aging. It posits the perspective that when one gets older and no longer can remain the same amount of active as they were before, they should disengage from society. Mostly because it was one of the first theories developed, the perspective is outdated now because it does not look at the positive effects of aging and instead only views aging and its social connections as something restrictive. On the contrary, I am more positive about the Continuity theory, because it reflects a very natural transition when people age.
